Is it possible to integrate Open VSX registry to VS code (OSS)?

OSS is the project on which VS code and theia are built on, there are a few differences between OSS and VS code , the major difference is the absence of access to vs code extension marketplace in OSS.

Open VSX registry is an open-source marketplace for extensions and almost all the popular and important vs code extensions are already present in the VSX registry.

Integrating VSX registry to OSS will be a huge win-win scenario for open-source community.

Is it possible to do so ?
